Of course you can use your own kits!! You are not obligated to use any specific kits.

And now that I know both you and Tattered Princess create kits.... I really could use more sources for donations for Participation Prizes! Any interest????

I forgot to answer - yes.. you may use all the colors you want so long as three of the palette options are there!

Thank you! This one is definately challenging me! I found some papers that are "honestly close", and I'm still searching. Can I add in papers of other colors that are in my picture but not in the palette? Sorry for all the questions - just trying to get it all straight!

Of course you can! You can add all the colors you like. (Sorry, I had neglected to answer that part of your questions and addressed it separately in a different post.)

Now about photos... I call those God's palette. More often than not, if you use colors contained in your photo, your ahead of the game!

When I was searching for palettes, I noticed that most accompanied a photo. Be it of a beach, a flower, a location... and the palette picked the colors right from the photo! God's Palette!!

Linda, I often find myself searching through kits to match color challenges. Most I participate in are month long ones. Which gives you plenty of time to look around. Sometimes I happen on the perfect color while doing something else. It's funny how it all falls together for us divi-scrappers.

I would definitely love to make one for a challenge prize...maybe if I try hard enough, I can come up with something Disney themed. Will work on one soon!

I had a really hard time finding anything close to Maleficent purple in my stash, so I went with the bottom three colors for the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. I hope my choices meet the palette!

I would rather this layout stayed in the forum here (and not on pinterest), but I could swap out the photo of my kiddos with one of just Russell and Carl if it passes the test. Thanks!

oh dear, I am just now seeing this thread.

I really do like the concept of a color challenge! (great idea, Laramie) I have hosted a few color challenges in years past, though more so to get people to improve their skills by trying to pick colors in relationship to other colors on the color wheel (complimentary, tri-ad, etc). I do, however, know that it is hard to match colors exactly... and I have learned a few things over the years. While there are tools that will allow you to get the exact color of a swatch online (e.g. the color picker on PSE), and some people who are skilled at altering elements might be able to match said colors (I am not one of them... I have a hard time adjusting colors!), I've also learned that it's not always wise to do so for printing reasons. What looks nice on a computer screen doesn't always print the same color (out of gamut). So many times it may be a good idea to use the products you have purchased from a designer (and hope they have tested for gamut). That said, some people may not have the exact shade in the swatch, and I'd hate for them to spend money on additional products to get a shade closer when they might already have a set of products they trust. Now I like to leave it up to hosts/those who donate products to have the final say on what is acceptable in a challenge, but I just wanted to say I'm personally okay with colors not being exact... if they have made an honest effort to try to be close.

Laramie - thanks again for hosting... I really appreciate it!
