MagicBands at WDW in 2013

I just saw an article about MagicBands and wanted to share. They will be introduced at WDW later this year and at other parks in the near future. Disney resort hotel guests will get them free and other guests may purchase them. A card with similar featuees will also be available for those guests not wanting to wear a band.

The article says "Called MagicBands, the high-tech bracelets are designed to be an all-in-one device that connects park visitors to everything." They are designed to replace tickets and room keys, also allowing you to associate a credit card for meal and souvenir purchases. You will also have the option to associate other services such as fastpass+ and photopass with the band. According to the article, "the band is just one element of a new guest experience called MyMagic+. It also includes the updated My Disney Experience website and mobile app, which allows you to plan various parts of your trip, make and change restaurant recommendations and coordinate plans with friends and family, among other things." One feature that I really likes is an option that would allow the characters to know your name before you approach them. My kids would flip out if the characters greeted them by their first names! The article talks about security and privacy regarding all of the options as well.
