Issues with Batteries

Hi!
I have a Canon Powershot sx130. I love it but it seems to use batteries ALOT!

I'm talking ALOT...I don't want to continue to spend so much on batteries but I don't want to be a DisneyWorld and not have my camera.
What I am asking is: does anyone have tips/suggestions about how to extend the life of my batteries? What can I do to make sure I'm not lugging around tons of batteries? Is there one brand better than others? Should I go with rechargeables?

Thanks so much for any and all advice. I love taking pictures!
