Have to agree that a blog hop sounds fab.

CoralTurtle 02-10-2012 09:24 AM

Oh well, I guess I'm in the minority on this, but I worry having a non-Disney gallery might "dilute" the niche quality of this site--if that make sense. I like the focus that this site has, personally. There are SO many other sites that have non-specific galleries. Maybe I'm just over thinking it, but that was my initial reaction to that particular suggestion.

I agree with this, This is the ONLY site that I know of that is Disney Specific for Scrappin and that is what I love of it.
If I want to see other layouts theme i just go somewhere else.
What makes Mousescrappers so unique it is that it has one theme. simple...uncomplicated and pure! :surf:

I love the blog hop idea and the Collabs by the Designers (expanding the store)

Thanks for your input, girls. One other person has expressed the same feeling as well - it's definitely something I/we need to think about

WDW Scrap Princess 02-10-2012 09:54 AM

I love the
Annual membership/subscription
(downloadable digiscrap items each month)

It will be so awesome! and individuals can join for a month at a time or 6 months or a year!

There are two big concerns I have with this idea, though. One is how to get products from designers to give away - I have no idea how they are compensated... either monetarily or otherwise. If someone has experience with this and would like to PM me offline, I would appreciate it. My second concern is interest in the product by members. For the sites that give away one kit from one designer per month... well what if your style is completely different from the style of the designer? I wouldn't want people to get upset. I know there is at least one other site that gives away several small items each month - almost a mini-goody bag - but that must be a challenge to coordinate each month.

Oh, and this would be one or the other (a store or membership) - It would be too much to do both.

Carolc 02-10-2012 10:25 AM

Oh, for those that still see the orange/peach notice above (about this poll) - you can dismiss it by clicking on the red X on the far right side of the notice.

Lisa said it perfectly. If I want to look at or post non-Disney layouts, there are tons of open galleries out there. Please do not change MouseScrappers. Being Disney specific is what makes MouseScrappers such a special place.

With respect, I worry that if you add an open gallery it will just become a "dumping ground" for every person out there to promote or sell their products. We are very lucky to have designers who sponsor this site and they (and their CT's) actively participate here. It is a part of what makes this such a great community.

I have noticed a trend where previously open galleries have moved towards regulating the use of "in-house" products. In many cases I believe this was done because they just got tired of people using their sites as "dumping grounds" - people who post layouts to promote a designer's product and get "free" advertising, but never contributing to or participating on that site.

Just my 2cents worth. (Putting my flame suit on LOL);)

Carol thanks for everything you do to make MouseScrappers such a great home:flowers:

cassidyk 02-11-2012 10:46 AM

I will confess that initially I was all for the idea of adding a non-Disney gallery but the excellent points made by Lisa and Jen have changed my mind. My original thought process was "wouldn't it be great to be able to gain inspiration for my non-Disney layouts from the same wonderfully talented people that inspire my Disney layouts" And while part of me still thinks that, I agree that the potential "risks" (if you will) that would come along with it don't outweigh that benefit.

So thank you Lisa and Jen for speaking up and presenting a compelling argument and view point I had not considered.

And thank you Carol for constantly striving to make this already awesome site even better! :flowers:

snowdrop 02-11-2012 12:46 PM

I'll jump in and agree with those who don't want non-Disney layouts in the gallery here. I like that it's JUST Disney here, like others said, that's part of what makes MS unique! I also think on your end, Carol, it will get really expensive to have a full gallery.

frogfish 02-11-2012 01:44 PM

I have been convinced to retract my vote for a non-Disney gallery. I oftentimes find myself wishing that other scrapbooking sites were exactly like Mousescrappers and was of the opinion that if I could do all of my scrapbooking here that I would be happy. The truth is that by introducing a non-Disney gallery Mousescrappers wouldn't be Mousescrappers anymore and I may end up unhappy here too...I definitely don't want that!!!

Yes, The name would not be Mousescrappers anymore

I often think how nice it is to see the gallery and go to any of the forums and just see Disney Related layouts. I just love that. In fact this is the only site I am actively posting and reading. (No blog, No FB) Mousescrappers its all I have for my "Disney Fix" I used to be in another Disney site but after i found this one, this is it.

Carolc 02-11-2012 10:31 PM

Thanks for your input on the non-Disney gallery. I just want to clarify that I would NOT touch the MS gallery and I don't want a bunch of non-Disney content in the MS forums. The idea I had was to install an empty gallery on a separate domain I have. Unlike other store galleries, I'd want it in some sort of category structure (you know me!). I really don't want to do any admin on it besides setup (and there would not be a forum or anything), but it would be there if anyone wants to use it to share non-Disney stuff with MS friends (and/or maybe get subject ideas). And maybe we could allow one 'any subject' weekly challenge. Just some ideas I had.... :)

frogfish 02-12-2012 04:23 AM

Thanks for that clarification Carol. When you put it that way, adding a non-Disney gallery in that manner would be almost like starting a new stand alone site instead of changing the focus of MS (which is what we don't want). I think the point everyone is trying to make is that we don't want to introduce changes that would damage the qualities that make MS unique; that make it the site we all love. If the new gallery would be a stand alone feature/site that wouldn't change/affect the existing MS, I'm back on board, and I would never turn down another challenge opportunity!

WDW Scrap Princess 02-12-2012 05:07 AM

I would love a every 2 months or 6 ...(or on whatever schedule)

Featured Designer

I think that it is interesting to get to know them better and their work.
We can Interview the Sponsors, maybe email them the questions. Maybe they can add a picture to the interview and then it can be filed under a separate forum.

I have read a few on other sites and they were really nice. I read Mye and Chelle's.

Here its one for an idea:

I just did a Layout of a supposed "interview" with a designer thus the inspiration

Read the special report from NYC correspondent Teresa CTeam

Scrap The News, received word that Designs by Sarah is releasing "It's a date - Vol 1"
a brand new Element kit featuring Metal tags, fasteners and including months in 6 languages.
(Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish & Portuguese)

Sarah is a talented Designer that in her short career has completed excellent Designs.
Her blog is followed not just by her friends and Creative Team members but by many others who admire her work.

When Scrap The News heard of the new release immediately requested an interview with the talented Designer;
however, Sarah has been so occupied Designing that the "request" was declined.

The kit will delight all the Scrapbookers that love to add dates to their layouts.

Reports are coming testifying to the fact that her Creative Team are very happy with her and her products.
Her team has members from: The Netherlands, Brazil, California, Kansas City, and NYC in United States of America; all this assuring the popularity of the Designer and her broad views of diversity.

When hearing about the release of It's a Date Vol 1, some Members of Sarah's Creative Team commented the following:

by JenEm
"It looks great Sarah"

by Romajo
"Well they are gorgeous and useful"

When asked about future kits releases, Sarah did not confirmed or denied, she just smiled and told us
"well, we just have to see what the future holds"

We rejoice with the new designer and wish her more great releases in the future.

To find out more about her work and designs please see her blog

as well as the Biography section in this journal.

What about instead of an open gallery a gallery for sponsors? If a designer is a sponsor of a site, they get their own gallery? Just a thought.

I originally voted for an open gallery but after hearing the comments I agree what makes Mousescrappers special is I can come here for Disney inspired kits and layouts and find layouts specific to photos I have to scrap. I rescind my open gallery vote. ;)

Fran98765 02-13-2012 05:28 AM

instead of another gallery for non-Disney (which I do not think should be added), if people really want to display other pages, maybe create a weekly thread somewhere on the forum where people could post their pages from someplace like photobucket and a link to a gallery where others could leave loves. This would allow people to "show off" their other pages but not compromise the site's theming.

I would love a landing page instead of straight into the forums. A blog would fit that bill nicely. A blog with info and featured members and designers from anywhere would be great.

MJAJmom 02-13-2012 02:11 PM

I LOVE the fact that this is a Disney only site, so I'd vote to keep it Disney pure. I do like that there are other Orlando parks allowed (like SeaWorld and Universal).

I'd love to see a blog with interesting Disney info. More tutorials is also very helpful since there are lots of new digital scrappers joining in.

It would be nice to have a sticky listing all the Disney designers/sponsors and their blogs/stores. Could even have a listing of member blogs.

I appreciate all your hard work and dedication to this site Carol!! :yeah:

Have you seen the Sponsor page? There is a link at the top of the page (next to the chat room link). If you can think of anything else that can be added to it, let me know. :)

I'll add my vote to this too. There are enough "non-Disney" galleries out there. I too would hate to see the uniqueness disappear.

LOVE the blog hop idea.
