Pin 'trading' here on MouseScrappers

Okay, so they are virtual 'pins' and it's not really 'trading' (though you can give them away or 'sell' them back to the shop for credit towards another pin), but I hope you are enjoying this little side feature of the site nonetheless. I thought I'd start a thread here for comments or questions about the pins, and to let you know when I've put a new pin in the shop (note: the images in your signature will be slightly smaller than shown below).

Today I added an Earful Tower: http://www.mousescrappers.com/forums...s/earful28.png Last week, I added the Teacups: http://mousescrappers.com/forums/xpe.../teacups24.png These are part of the "Disney Pin Collection" that anyone can redeem with post points. There are currently 27 pins in this collection, and I'm always looking for more.
<br/>
I've also recently added a new category for people who have referred others to MouseScrappers. Ironically, I can't seem to buy one since I haven't technically referred anyone. So I'm hoping someone can try it out for me. You currently need to refer 2 people to get one of these (they must write your name down when they register). There are two pins in this category now. Cinderella's Castle: http://mousescrappers.com/forums/xpe...dwcastle32.png and the Tree of Life: http://mousescrappers.com/forums/xpe...cons/TOL26.png
<br/>
While not new, there is a Tinkerbell pin http://mousescrappers.com/forums/xpe...ns/tbell26.png that is available to anyone who links to MouseScrappers.com. Thanks so much! It's helping to get the word out about our community, and I think it's improving the site's visibility on Google. Click here to pickup this pin.
<br/>
And, as a small thank you to anyone who lets me book their vacation, here is Steamboat Willie http://mousescrappers.com/forums/xpe...eamboatw32.png from the 1928 classic animated short. He is very special to me since he represents a major breakthrough for Walt and the world of animation and entertainment in general... a foreshadowing of great things to come. I wanted to use something personally special to me to express my gratitude.
<br/>
I came across a pin today that I've never seen before that is totally cute (and more importantly looks good in miniature size)... but I'm going to keep it under wraps until I think of a good opportunity to release it. :idea:
<br/><br/>
The pin/achievement/experience system is not perfect, and unfortunately we have to live with the imperfections (and the inability to make modifications). Still, I hope you find this 'just for fun' feature of MouseScrappers pleasant. Thanks so much for being active members of the site! :wave:
<br/>
Note: Info about this system can be found here in the FAQ's.

I love those little pins !!! I want those tea cups !!! :thumbsup:

Can't wait to see what else you add.

QuiltyMom 05-16-2010 11:28 AM

I'm such a ditz. So, this is what all the points are for! Doh!

Very fun and very cool idea!

pennylayne 05-16-2010 11:41 AM

Ok, I feel like a dork, but I have a question...

I have points ( not a lot) but when I go to buy a pin it says I have NO points at all?? Ideas?

QuiltyMom 05-16-2010 11:57 AM

Now I feel "accessorized"! Yay! That was some fun shopping!

I know it's a little confusing. You currently have 104 'Points for posts' (I can see this in your profile and clicking on the "Experience" tab). The points that show under your signature is larger because you get points for other things (days online, filling out a profile, etc). You have enough to get one pin so far (they are 100 points each).

There are currently 5 categories of pins. Everyone can 'buy' pins with their 'points for posts' from the "Disney Pin Collection" and the Holiday and Misc pin categories. You'll need to refer 2 people to get any pins from the 'Referral' collection. And the last one is reserved for special pins that I (or the moderators) want to give out. So if you see a '0' showing there is either a problem with the counter and I need to run the recalculate function, or perhaps you are looking at one of the other categories that you don't have points for? Which category were you looking at?

Hope that helps...

MelissaD 05-16-2010 12:16 PM

I love the little pins. Very fun idea for the board, Carol. I'm aiming for the castle and the teacups next. :)

Thanks for explaining! I was looking at the disney pin category, but your right, at the time I was looking, I didn't have enough points . I just thought i did because of my counter. It's all gravy now :) Thanks!

snowdrop 05-16-2010 02:06 PM

I love the pins. :D If you're having problems, make sure you're signed in! Sometimes when I've gone to the pin page, I get logged out for some reason, and then it'll say I don't have any points. ;)

I see you have a new pin in your signature so I guess it worked. :hooray: Let me know if you encounter any issues trying to get a pin.

Interesting... I hadn't heard that yet but will take note. Hopefully it is not happening too much.

Carolc 05-16-2010 06:07 PM

Okay, I guess I couldn't wait very long to reveal the pin I mentioned in my first post. This one is from Hong Kong Disneyland, and shows Mickey and Pluto flying through space in a Space Mountain rocket. I just can't get over how cute it is!

http://mousescrappers.com/forums/xpe...ns/SM_MP30.png

So I will give this pin to anyone that transfers an existing Disney reservation to me and allows me, as your Travel Agent, to take over the servicing of your reservation (I can help with room requests, online check in, documentation, arrange Magical Express, help with modifications to your reservation if needed, ADR's and call Disney on your behalf whenever you have a question). There are no costs associated with this. Note that you can only transfer a booking if you've booked through Disney directly, but haven't made a final payment yet. You can't do this if you've booked through an online travel site (Expedia, etc) or another Travel Agent.

I will also give this pin to anyone that books a cruise through me (Disney or not). I have been working towards ACC certification from CLIA (Cruise Line International Association) and have to book about 10 more cabins before the end of the year. The 25 cabin booking requirement is a little ambitious in this economy, and I'm not sure if I'll reach my goal or not, but I'm surely hoping to! Transfers or referrals would work here, too.

If neither of these apply to you, don't worry... I'm sure I will find another cute pin again soon, so stay tuned. :)

Thanks so much for listening and allowing me to describe my services for a moment.

cddiesel 05-16-2010 07:46 PM

I personally love my new Steamboat Willie pin! Especially now that I know what it means to you!

Good luck getting those 10 cruises booked! You can do it!

The same thing happens to me. Whenever I want to buy pins I have to log in Mousescrappers and then log in again while I am in the pin page.

The new pin is too cute! As soon as we are able I'm gettin one of those!!!:thumbsup:

winipeg1 05-25-2010 03:10 AM

yeh :yeah: just got enough points to buy my 1st pin.... just wanted to see it under my post really! :)

tukogirl 05-25-2010 10:14 AM

Yay! Congrats on the new pin!

kendallt 05-28-2010 08:09 AM

I just "bought" my first pin too! Whoo-Hoo! Now, I really, really want that Cinderella Castle pin, so I've gotta work on referring some peeps! :woohoo:

I know! I love the little name tag pin. It's so cute!! :yes:

missi_me 06-06-2010 06:59 PM

I want the name tag too. So... what do you have to do to get one of them?

by the looks of the people that have them, i am guessing you just have to be super fabulous!! LOL, or ya know, contribute a lot to this site =) :lol2:

Carolc 06-06-2010 08:41 PM

The idea for the name tags arose because I wanted a way of saying thank you to someone who acted as though she was a 'Cast Member', even though she wasn't a part of our small team - really being kind and helpful to others, and offering to help me. Likewise, all of the name tags have gone to people who have gone 'above and beyond' what our regular members do.

So to get one, you need to do something that makes MS a better place. If you were a 'Cast Member' of our site, what might you do? Some people have gone out of their way to welcome and help others (without me asking them to). Some have done a lot to help me run this site (taking some of the responsibility off me... I'm spread very thin!). They've suggested ideas to me, and with my approval have taken responsibility for implementing/managing these new activities/forums so I don't have to. Some have written tutorials. Some have brought in a significant number of new members. Some are just on the site a significant amount of time, posting a lot of layouts, leaving a lot of love for others, participating in challenges, etc.

If you want a name tag, think of a way to make MouseScrappers a better place. Some ideas:
- we could use some more scrapbooking tutorials;
- I'd like to see more Disney news (e.g. updates on park changes);
- I'd like to see more content in the photography forum since photos are so essential to our pages... ideas for improvement, how-to's, etc;
- Also, if you know somebody that can help get negotiated discounts for our members (like I did with Hojo), or if you know somebody that can help me get some advertisers to help me fund the site, that would help, too!

btw, If anyone wants to 'nominate' someone for a name tag, I'm all ears - I'm sure I haven't noticed everyone.

Thanks,
Carol

I love how it's like a Cast Member. Even cooler. :cool:

Did you mean "all ears" as a pun, or am I just all Disney, all the time? ;)

Another idea is to maybe try to post as many of your old (and current!) layouts on the respective forum threads. The idea Carol first had for the site is for it to be a place where you can easily find inspiration for a specific Disney subject, and it would be great to have as many ideas on the threads as possible! I know it's hard, I've been slowly doing this for a while, lol, and now I'm also adding my paper layouts! But I think if even one person gets inspired by even one of those layouts, I'm happy. :)

thanks for the info Carol!! i just linked someone up to some tutorials that helped me when i first started digi-scrapping. then after that i was thinking that we should really have some basic tutorials of our own here on this site!! i even made a list, lol. hoping to have some up in the next week or so.

Can I make a Pin suggestion? I love that you have the country pins. Could we get one for Hong Kong too? (the Hong Kong flag, not China flag.) I first saw these as not only being nationalities, but also to show what parks one has been to.

Carolc 06-20-2010 06:44 PM

Hi Jamie,

The country flags I've posted so far were Disney pins from EPCOT. Have you seen any similar pins with the Hong Kong flag?

inkspots 06-20-2010 08:04 PM

Not off hand. I'll keep my eyes open though.

UGH! I wish I would have known sooner!! I just paid off our DCL balance for our first cruise in October. As our girls get older, I know we will be booking more cruises. I can't wait to show our girls the world! Hubby and I were talking about cruise #2 destinations (highly optomistic for cruise #1) which we will probably book on-board. (I read you get the best rate booking on-baord). I would be glad to transfer the ressie to you Carol!! :yeah:

The pins are too stinkin' cute!! What fun! I LOVE the mickey bar. I have to figure out a way I can earn that one. The "cast member" name pins are fantastic!!
Sandy

Carolc 06-25-2010 11:12 PM

Thanks very much, Sandy... I certainly would appreciate the cruise bookings, especially (any cruise line). I'm sure you will have a wonderful time on the Disney cruise - you may be hooked! There was a super good deal here for the Disney Wonder when it comes over here to the west coast (kids sail for free!). But that deal disappeared fast (though yesterday I saw 8 balcony cabins open for Feb 6). I wish we would have been able to take advantage of it, but the kids would be in school.

Oh, to get the Mickey Bar, just host a challenge. :)

Sand 07-12-2010 12:51 PM

Thanks Carol. I thought one had to be a designer in order to host but I guess as long as a participation prize is available then hosting is available to everyone. Cool!

I knew I had DL Hong Kong images. I hope to visit all of the castles, someday. So, I have been saving things as I find them. Carol, I hope you will be able to one of these for a pin:

I have tons of clip art. Just let me know what activity the character needs to be doing or something more specific.

Sandy

Carolc 08-13-2010 11:34 PM

Carolc 08-21-2010 09:09 AM

I'm glad you like the Pop Century pin. :) I tried a few other resorts logos, but the images are so detailed that they really don't look all that great when they are only 16 to 20 pixels high. But I'll keep trying.

I just added several new pins. But I decided to change it up a little on these. I notice that many people have a lot of "User" points, so you can buy these pins with those points. They are a little 'cheaper' because you don't accrue user points as fast. You can see how many user points you have in the Shop, in your profile, or on the 'ranking' page (though not as easy to find there)

Here are the new 'User points' pins (enlarged to show detail):
