Speed Scrap

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...5_142760_n.jpg

I was wondering if we have enough members now that would be interested in a speedscrap. I love taking part in these on the other forums that I am a member of and I would love to have a go at hosting one too. It is great way to get a page done quickly!

I was wondering if we could have one maybe once or twice a month on a weekend at a time that would suit most people. What do you guys think and what are good times for you to play. Speaking as a member from the UK most evenings from around 8pm GMT through to 11pm GMT or weekend any time (within reason!) are good for me!

Lets hear your opinions and ideas below and if we have enough members and Carol agrees I would love to have a go at hosting the first one :surf:

gillscott 04-10-2010 09:19 AM

i'd possibly join one if it was at a uk friendly time

tukogirl 04-10-2010 09:21 AM

I would love to participate in a speed scrap! They sound so fun!

Some weekends we have morning activities and sometimes evening activiites, so I couldn't say which would be better. But I would definitely join the scrap whenever my schedule allows!

Maybe alternate the speed scrap to be in the morning one time and the evening the next time? That way people who have a set schedule wouldn't alllways miss it? But maybe that makes it more confusing?

However it works out, I will particpate as often as I can!:yeah:

r0binb 04-10-2010 10:27 AM

I'd love to do a speed scrap here. But if it's on the weekend, the best time for me is after the kids are in bed. I just don't get that much computer time during the day when they're up.

hobbes130 04-10-2010 11:20 AM

Thanks for the replies  Glad you all like the idea in principle.

Having read what you've all said so far perhaps weekends are not the best days to go for. I personally can not do weekdays during the day for the next 3 months as I have to work full time to cover a colleagues leave  but I know quite a few people do scrap during the day and this suits them better because their kids are at school. What about if I pick a time that is a week day evening in the UK which will make it afternoon in the US?

For instance
if I started a speedscrap at say 7pm GMT time it would be 2pm ET. How would this suit most people on a weekday?

That would work .... And it includes everyone in some way.

:woohoo:

tukogirl 04-10-2010 12:48 PM

I wouldn't be able to do a midweek, midday speed scrap. but if we allowed extra hours for paper scrappers I could try to participate later in the day with a paper page

hobbes130 04-10-2010 03:16 PM

We don't have to be really strict on timings and we can make the rules that suit us.

So it could go something like the host starts the speedscrap thread an hour before the challenge starts for everyone to sigh up and say who is doing it. Then the rules are posted over a one hour period and then we give an amount of time for finishing up and posting in the gallery. I have never paper scrapped in my life so I have no idea how long a page takes, someone will have to give me some advice on this.

How about challenge opens 1 hour before (e.g 6pm GMT 1pm ET)

Then 1 hour for rules to be given out - we could maybe go with 5 rules 1 on the hour, 1 at quater past, 1 at half past, 1 at quater 2 and 1 at the close of the hour (e.g. 7pm - 8pm GMT/ 2pm - 3pm ET)

Then we could give 4 hours (more if it is felt it was needed) for finishing up and layouts to be posted to the gallery.

I'm open to tweeks and suggestions but I really would love for us to get these challenges off the ground. Perhaps we could host 2 a month initially one on a weekday and one on a weekend.

kateolas 04-10-2010 04:06 PM

Is this a paper only speed scrap? We can't do digital?

I had an idea for that group mega kit for those in our group that are designers ... could that be a challenge? Like say specific theme to make a kit? Just an idea I've been tossing around. A few have mentioned interest in it.

andrea4376 04-10-2010 04:41 PM

I'd definately be up for a speed scrap - never done one before as the time has never suited being in the Uk.

The design challenge sounds good (not that I'm a designer)..but one thought - maybe a designer could post a tutorial on making say an element or a paper and everyone makes one and at the end they all get shared ? Learn something and gain something too - I'd love to see something like that.

hobbes130 04-10-2010 05:47 PM

Great ideas Andrea and Melissa :thanks:

I would be happy to have a go at making design elements if I got some instruction lol!

Melissa I thought the speed scrap would be mainly digitial but obviously don;' want to exclude our paper scrappers either.

Kellybell 04-10-2010 06:02 PM

I am totally interested in a speed scrap and a collaboration challenge as well. Weekdays during the day is better for me and on weekends evenings would be better. But whatever is decided I will try to participate whenever I can!:D

longhorn 04-10-2010 06:35 PM

I would love to Speed Scrap here too! I'm a late night scrapper (after 8-9pm CT) on both weeknight and weekends, but I try to get in to Speed Scraps anytime my work schedule allows! I'm getting excited already - can't wait! :yeah:

hobbes130 04-11-2010 12:20 PM

Well it seems like in principle everyone is up for the idea of a speedscrap :yeah:

I am going to put a date out there and keep my fingers crossed that quite a few of you can make it :)

I am propsing to host the first Mouse Scrappers Speed Scrap on

Monday 3rd May at 7pm GMT 2pm ET.

I will open the speed scrap at 6pm GMT 1pm ET for signing up and chatting :surf:

I will post 5 instructions at the folllowing times
7.00pm GMT 2.00pm ET
7.15pm GMT 2.15pm ET
7.30pm GMT 2.30pm ET
7.45pm GMT 2.45pm ET
8.00pm GMT 3.00pm ET

There will then be 4 hours for finishing up and posting your layout to the gallery and the relevant thread.

For the scrappers that are not able to make the speedscrap they could just treat this as a weekly challenge and join in at their leisure.

I will try and sort out a participation prize for everyone that joins in, I know a lovely designer I can ask :)

How does that sound to everyone? Let me know your thoughts and availablitly for this date :thanks:

californiateri 04-11-2010 04:51 PM

Sounds like fun! The only thing is WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MAY 3rd!

That'll be like having to wait until Christmas for a little kid!

Here's the times for those of you on the west coast of the US:

10AM - open speed scrap for sign up and chatting

Instructions at these times:
11:00am
11:15am
11:30am
11:45am
12 noon

Then have until 4pm to finish. (That's really generous - most I've participated in only give you an hour to finish after last instruction given.)

Just put it on my calender so I can be here!

PrincessTiff 04-11-2010 05:03 PM

I haven't tried one of these before but sounds fun!:yeah:

gillscott 04-12-2010 05:21 AM

sounds fun , i aim to be there

Kim 04-12-2010 06:39 AM

This sounds so fun, I will try to be there.

Since I am a substitute teacher I never know until the morning of that day if I will be working or not. This is one day I will hope not to get the call to work!

-Kim

hobbes130 04-12-2010 10:49 AM

:hooray: I have a few takers. So relieved that I am not going to be here on my own :lol2:

:thanks: Teri for sorting out the West coast times for those that need them. Sorry we have to wait until the 3rd May I thought I would give people time to notice the thread and put it on their calendars. I went with the 4 hours finishing up time because I didn't want any time zone to feel excluded and by giving more time hopefully more people will be able to fit it in. It also gives time for the paper scrappers among us to give it a go too if they want too :)

RuthieRoo 04-12-2010 01:22 PM

Ok i've never done one of these before but i'm up for it! 7pm UK time is good for me as i'll be done with work and I'll have my page done before Glee starts. Hehe. I love that show!! :yeah:

hobbes130 04-12-2010 02:58 PM

:yeah:I have really exciting news Kelly from kellybell designs has offered us an amazing participation prize for this challenge. I am not going to reveal what it is just yet. I think I will surprise you all a day or 2 before the challenge starts but I know you are going to love it :hooray:

This challenge is really coming together :)

:thanks:so much Kelly :)

britt 04-12-2010 03:24 PM

How fun!! I'll put it on my calendar right now!

Just to be clear - it starts at 2:00 Eastern, 1:00 Central, Noon Mountain, 11:00 Pacific?

luv2scrapmm 04-12-2010 03:30 PM

I've never done a speed scrap before....

Question - Do you have to be signed in during that first hour? I will be at work and can't do anything of a personal nature on my computer. I should be home by 4:15 EST and could sign in then and catch all the directions at once if that is okay. After that it would truly be a speed scrap for me:).

Thanks,

Monica

Gee you have so many time zones out there in the US I get confused

The speed scraps starts at the following times but I am going to be here 1 hour before to open the thread and to start sign up and chatting :surf:

So to confirm the Speed Scrap start times are as follows

7pm GMT
1pm Central
2pm Eastern
11am Pacific

:thanks: for adding Central Time Britt :)

Not sure if this will work (or if it only works for admins): Go to the FB page and type the details of the challenge in the "Write something..." box. Right below the box are three icons. When you hover over the one in the middle, it says 'Photo'. Click on it and then it will give you the option to upload from your PC. Please try it out and let me know if it lets you do this or not.
