Unusual shots - think outside the box
A few years ago, my brother sent me a link to some photos he took at Hong Kong Disneyland. The ones below really caught my eye, as I thought they made ordinary objects look so artistic. As I paid more attention his other photos, I noticed I was drawn toward ordinary (and often overlooked) objects captured from unusual angles. I felt inspired to try this as well. While his equipment is far superior than mine, I feel very pleased with some images I have captured (though I'm still learning what 'works' and doesn't work). With digital, it's cheap and fun to experiment.
I think a few of you know that I started a thread on DIS entitled "Show me: photos an avg tourist may not take". I started that thread in the summer of 2006, and it still seems to still be going strong with 2500+ replies and counting. Pop over and get some inspiration from all the people who have posted their images. Anyway, in addition to getting all the 'typical' tourist shots of family and familiar buildings, try to take more shots of all the little details that add to the atmosphere/surroundings... it can help tell the story in your layouts. If you try to think outside the box, you will notice that you will never run out of new things to photograph at Disney! I didn't realize YOU started that thread! That's always one of my favorites. :) I always try to take unusual shots, but you know how sometimes you're (unfortunately) rushing around & miss those types of shots! :( That pic is awesome!
I need to go through my pics & see if I have any from this trip, at least. I finally have my pics on my computer, so it shouldn't be as hard as when I had to keep connecting my external to see them! ;) I have no space, I had to bite the bullet & finally delete other pics off my computer so I could put all 13GB of pics from this trip on there! (Of course those pics are on 2 externals & CDs, but it still hurts to delete any kind of pics from my computer!) |

Beautiful! I especially love the first one with Dumbo beyond the depth of focus.

ooh i have lots of pics like these! they are easy to take when you go to the parks by yourself all the time like i do! need to go through my stash =)

i have a Sony Alpha 350 DSLR. Most of those pictures are taken with the lens it came with. But i did just get a new lens for xmas (a 17-70 f2.8 Macro), the last 3 pictures were taken with the new lens.

I love your photo's Tanya, I have the same camera, Sony A350, with an 18-70 lens, 18-200 lens, 10-20 lens (super wide-angle) and 70-300 lens.

I have this camera for over a year now en never had regrets about buying it. I've worked in a store that sells camera's (sorry, don't know it there's an English word for it :help:) for 1,5 years, so I have some knowledge about it. The 18-70 lens (sony) came with the camera when I bought it (I thought I had read that some country's had the 18-55 as a kitlens, but I'm not sure). The 18-200 lens (sigma) is what we call an allround-lens. It has a little bit of wide-angle and goes to telezoom. This way you don't have to change lenses a lot (less dust on your sensor that way!). That's the reason I bought it for Disneyland! I didn't want to waste so much time changing my lenses. The 10-20 lens (sigma) is what we call ultra wide-angle. That way you can get more of your environment on your picture. For example the picture I took from the Disneyland Hotel. I can even get my own feet on the photo :yes: And the 70-300 lens (sigma) is a tele-lens for taking photo's of things or people that are further away AND for macro (flowers, butterflies, things like that). The last time we went to Disneyland, I only took the 18-200 and the 10-20 lens with me and that really was enough for me. My English is far from perfect, I hope you understand it all... :blush: I can put more pics from Disneyland Paris on internet if you like. Wow, awesome shots! My cameras do not do well in low light (so I can especially appreciate the nightime shots from you both). I also love the wide angle shot in the hotel. I have a Nikon D50. It came with two lenses, the shorter one doesn't go wider than 28mm (argh!). I need to get a better one. I just bought a 50mm 2.8, which is much better in low light than I had. I still haven't taken it to Disney World yet. I took my Olympus EVOLT in 2006 (back when I took the time to learn how to shoot manual). Nutshell, I have two entry-level DSLR's that take good photos, but I'd like to go to the next level - just not in the budget.

Thanks for your cool pics Tanya & Fioontje! Fioontje, I love seeing pics of Disneyland Paris! They recently added a balloon to downtown Disney at Disney World, but I've only seen it from a distance. Your hotel reminds me of the Grand Floridian.

What size
Hello all! Carol I am thrilled to see that you re-started this thread here. Like Heather said I always enjoyed the original one so it is great to keep it going. I have several to add but one quick question. What size dimensions are you using for posting purposes? For example, we usually post our layouts at 600x600 so I am just curious what sizes you ladies have been using to post the amazing shots that are already here. Hmm... that opens up a question. Do people want to upload their photography images here? Or continue hosting on other sites and just link to those images here? I currently have my images at pbase.com, and my max dimension I use there is 800px (either portrait or landscape).

I love Jack Spence's blog on All Ears, he always blogs about unusual things. Recently he did a feature on benches at each park. It doesn't sound much until you see how amazing each bench is themed to each part of the park! This week he did a feature on lampposts. Again, seems pretty plain until you take a look. Only Disney would pay this much attention to the details of a park bench or lamppost, it makes me want to take my own pics (and of course scrap them.) ;) If you missed them, here are the features, it's definitely worth a look!

I used my 50 mm 1.8 to take the Chip & Dale picture. In fact, with all pictures that I posted. I just love that lens! I haven't had any regrets buying it. Your Jiminy looks very simular to mine, how funny is that. :D I counted the pictures and video's we made: over 5000 pictures and almost 8 hours of film :blush: It will keep me busy the next weeks...:whistle: |
