2014 Marathon - Game #3

It is time for Game #3. In this thread I want you to brag on yourself. I want us all to share in your accomplishments.

I often find during the marathons that I very pleased with myself for one reason or another and often times my DH just doesn't understand it. I need someone who is a scrapper to understand my joy. So... I want to share in that happiness with you.

For me, I am often pleased with a specific something during the event. For example.. I am pleased with the end result of a LO... or pleased that I was inspired to use a certain kit... or pleased that I was able to use certain photos... or pleased that I stepped outside my personal comfort zone and did something different... You get the idea.

Please use this thread to share with us a couple of your OWN LO's that really make you smile AND tell us why.

If you need help in getting started... answer this question..

I am proud of myself because I (fill in the blank)... created, tried, made, accomplished...

Only uplifting things in this thread, please. I want you to brag on yourself. As a prize, I will select two lucky random posters to win a signature pin from the MouseScrappers virtual pin shoppe.

Game #3

Well I guess I'll start! I am so proud of the fact that I finished another marathon!! I used some kits that I bought a while ago and never used (my favorite being Change Your Fate by Trixie Scraps & Britt-ish Designs-which I used for 2 LOs!), I learned how to blend a photo into the BG (SUPER easy, btw!), and I made almost all of my LOs without templates!!
Here are a few of my own favorites!!

Here are some of my own personal pats of the back for this marathon:
1) I used 8 kits from my stash that I have never used before - I am a total hoarder
2) I've never done a photo as the page background - I love this technique and plan to use it again.
3) I finally feel comfortable and confident in my clustering

Here are a few of my favorites layouts

I was so happy with trying a new technique because I played around and tried the posterize photo filter. First time I ever used it and I love the way it looks on the top right photo. I even used it later for another LO. Also, I liked the way the layout using the photo background turned out.

I finished the whole thing. Bonus, I finished our 2012 trip! I've got stuff organized to work on 2013 now. I am proud I finished it all, LOL! Here are some of my favorite layouts from this marathon:

I have always struggled with clustering...especially more than 3 flowers...so I was really proud with how I made the cluster in the upper part of this page (especially since this page really stretched me).

Im proud of myself because I love how this 2 pages came up so I turned them into a back n cover for a small book for Epcot, with pics that didnt make into the big book.

I will edit later my post with the 2 pg cover cause I already closed my ps :(

Jojo 02-11-2014 01:28 PM

I have also a few pages where I'm really proud off!

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...reams-shot.jpg
I already am proud of this picture, so I wanted to create something to highlight it's beauty even more. Think I almost nailed it.
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...hat-a-view.jpg
I'm Lost without a template in most cases, but for this one, the instructions gave me the confidence of stepping away from a template and just create my own page
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...ne-sisters.jpg
I had a hard time picking a kit, and it's actually a spring kit I used, but it turned out great! Also the blend worked out really well so it looks like the sisters are making a heart around themself.
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...ith-mickey.jpg
I don't use black and white that much. So I'm proud of trying it and that it worked great!

And my thing to be the most proud off, is that I finished them all!

Annet83 02-11-2014 01:47 PM

Ooh, I love complementing others but I hardly am satisfied with myself, so this it a nice challenge for me! :P I'm gonna do a top 3:

Speedscrap #159:
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...edscrap159.jpg
I really like the effect of the black & white photos (gonna do that more often!) in combination with the bright colors. It became such a funky love LO, not at all what I expected when I chose the photos!

Speedscrap #165:
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...edscrap165.jpg
While clustering I got really frustrated, cause I thought it wasn't going anywhere, but I pushed through and the clustered border became awesome I think! Also I like my 'special effect' with the blended photo on that background.

Speedscrap #167:
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...edscrap167.jpg
The non-typical Disney stuff usually takes me a lot more effort to scrap than the characters, rides and all the stuff you have the perfect theme-kits for! I'm so happy with the result of this cocktail page, it really has the relaxed, warm feeling the cocktail gave me :P

angustia17 02-11-2014 02:17 PM

Love this idea! I always show my DH my pages as well, and he doesn't give 2 cents about them. HAHA

It is REALLY hard for me NOT to use flowers... so I was pretty pleased with how this page turned out for not having any flowers in it.
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...untaincrop.jpg

These other layouts are my personal favorites from this marathon.

Thanks everyone for all the fun speed scraps and for the comments and nominations! Means a lot and I love getting inspiration from everyone else's hard work as well!!

Therapy97 02-11-2014 02:53 PM

Brag about oneself, huh? That just goes against my very nature. LOL! Ok, ok, I have to say that I am amazed at how far I have come as a scrapper and to see so many different people nominating many of my marathon layouts in Game #2 has humbled me. It really is amazing and has helped my confidence as a scrapper that I am "doing it right." As Melinda said, the hubby doesn't always "get it"... actually none of my family does. So, coming here and getting the nods for a great layout during speed scraps is so awesome. But all the praise actually has to be given to this site... if it wasn't for Mousescrappers' challenges and speed scraps, along with the never ending friendliness of all the people on here, I would have never excelled in my scrapping abilities! So, I am proud of my continuing ability to show off my creativity and inspire others, especially to you all who understand the struggles we all have in making even a single layout. :)

Pooh46 02-11-2014 03:05 PM

First of all, I was excited just to finish the Marathon! Still catching up on my sleep! I got a new camera for Christmas so I made a point of showcasing some of my photos from our trip last month in my layouts. I was very pleased with the results. Here are a few of my favorites:

Aussiegirl 02-11-2014 07:00 PM

I am very proud of this 2 page layout and LOVE how it turned out! It was actually fun to do too!

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...08_smaller.jpg http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...12_smaller.jpg

These pages and photos have also inspired a set of photos I am going to frame! I had bought a 5 opening frame and was going to use it for a photo a day from our last trip. However, now i am going to use it for 1 photo per trip from my family in front of the castle. This will be a quick reminder of how we have changed, how big my girls have gotten, and the overall fun time we've had on our trips! I can't wait to see the frame fill up (and maybe overflow into us needing another frame!) :) I can't wait to see it fill up as my girls grow up and have their own families and we maybe take grandparent trips to Disney!!!

tinkerbell1112 02-11-2014 07:42 PM

I have two things I want to show off.

First, I have never been able to figure out how to get that dreamy look in a picture and I learned in #164 to and love how it turned out :)
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...-_Page_023.jpg

I'm not big on using patterned paper! Or doing clusters! So #161 was really hard for me, but I love how it turned out
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...-_Page_021.jpg

janette 02-11-2014 08:16 PM

I'm always thrilled to get more pages done, I got some older ones done this time and it's fun to go back in time and see how much has changed.

This is my favorite page, I'd tried to do these pictures a few times and never thought to use a patterned paper before the SS and love how well it worked.
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...ite_grotto.jpg

These are my favorites for the memories, my girls recreated their poses for me in the Then / NOW - a side benefit of my older pages is that they remember some of the pictures. They had fun doing it and too bad it couldn't be done at WDW anymore.

This year's challenges were so awesome that I really love my LOs. (Thanks hosts!)
Of course, there are a few that stand out to me more than others.
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...t_500x500_.jpg
When this chat started by Melinda and she said only 1 picture, I was disappointed (I prefer to scrap lots of pictures on a page since I have so many of each event). So, I had to search and search for a subject. I started one LO in front of the castle and ended up with 3 pictures! So, had to ditch it and she had a quick turn around, too! Then, she says that the background has to be patterned - oh how I suck at patterns, especially as the main showing item. I saw my picture of Cheshire Cat (which I never really thought to scrap on his own). I started throwing things on the page and ended up with mostly pink items - I am SO not a pink person. Most of my LOs are bright colors. I LOVED how it turned out! Everything about it makes it stand out from my others and I can see just how to use it, too! As the first page in my Crazy Hat album! So fun, Thanks, Melinda for challenging me

amyjo76 02-13-2014 04:39 AM

I'm most proud of completing the marathon :)

1. I think my favorite LO from the weekend was for SS#164
I liked that I used a non-Disney related kit. I like how the picture turned out blended in the background. I did ok with my clusters too :)
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos.../ss_164_rz.jpg

2. I liked my page from SS#156 because it all came together well. I loved scrapping the old pictures and the colors matched nicely. I used another non-Disney kit for this one as well.
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos.../ss_156_rz.jpg

3. I liked how SS#162 page was split up. I liked the bright color vs the pastel.

I am proud of myself for completing this marathon. I have had a very rough year and I needed to breakthrough and do something I love again! This gave me the perfect opportunity to digiscrap again. :yeah::yeah::yeah:

Like most people have said, I find it hard to congratulate myself. I am amazed I did the whole marathon considering I wasn't home most of Friday, my son was home for college so we went out Saturday, and I already had plans with friends and dinner at my parents' house on Sunday. Usually I don't plan anything on marathon weekends - lol. Many of my layouts were done in an hour which I can't believe. The challenges pushed me to try some new things.
I used kits I bought and hadn't used, tried pocket style scrapping (which I think I love), and used the eyedropper tool to recolor many more items than I have ever done before. Although I know I will tweek a few layouts, overall I am happy with how they came out. In fact, the layout I was least happy with at the time ends up being the one that someone else picked as a favorite for that speed scrap. Most of all I am proud to be part of this amazing group!!!!

My faves:

I TOTALLY agree!!! My family doesn't get either but the always love the finished products and so it is nice to have others to share my passion and pastime. And yes without mousescrappers and all the great peeps around here I would still be just throwing some pics on a plain background and thinking I was really accomplishing something great when really, yes I was accomplishing something but nothing like what I am now. Now I look back at my previous scrapping and think, wow wish I had unlimited time I would redo that!

Did not like this challenge starting out, but turned out o really like this page! I love all the layers and the crazy amount of stuff in it.
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...mbs/SS1624.jpg
I am not a pastel scrapper but did it anyway, I ended up liking the page much more than I thought I would and am actually going to use it again to do a different title and pics

I usually use the speed scraps to practice scrapping or try something new and challenge myself. While there were some pages I didn't love (most often because I didn't have as much time as I would like or I didn't really have a kit I loved so it was hard to put a page together) there were some that I was really pleasantly surprised with! I pretty much ALWAYS use templates when I'm doing my own page and speed scraps often require you not to use one so that was a huge step out of my comfort zone too! Ok, enough rambling! Here are the pages of mine that I liked the best:

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...s/MSSS_164.jpg
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...s/MSSS_158.jpg

And thanks to everyone for the awesome comments and inspiration from your amazing pages!

QuiltyMom 02-13-2014 01:50 PM

First, I'm happy that I completed all of the speed scraps. Not all were on time, but that's okay. I did them! :woohoo: I had a busy weekend that didn't allow me to scrap as much as I wanted (work at the rink and DH's 50th Birthday), so this was an accomplishment!

Sometimes I broke the rules (I have a VERY hard time scrapping with just one photo - so I started with one and added some more!) Some of the pages were of photos I've been struggling to get scrapped and couldn't, until I forced myself to use them for a SS, whether I liked the instructions or not. And they all turned out better than I had hoped! So, thanks again to all of our wonderful hostesses and their great instructions!

Here are my favorite pages, and why:

SS #162: I made this one FAST. I must admit I modified the instructions a bit, but I love the way it turned out. I guess I should force myself to scrap faster! :lol2:

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos.../love_this.jpg

SS #163: I had all these extra photos of Tomorrowland that I wanted to use, so this did it! I never would've put the word card in there if the instructions didn't ask for it, but I love the way it looks with it in.

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...1076/tland.jpg

SS #167: Another one that I had trouble making. The gal at the front of the ride log was sticking her tongue out in the photo and I had no idea how to crop her out or cover it up. So, the large title needed for the SS took care of that problem! And I never would've added the banner, either.

My proudest Moments

This was a great weekend, and exactly what I needed. I am so thrilled that I had some amazing memories with my kids that I could reflect on as I scrapbooked them. I am proud that I was able to organize my life in a way that I could finish all 16 pages, and qualify for 15 of the participation prizes. I even fit in a great tennis match, which I won, some quality time with my daughter and even kept my commitment to study.....a little at least.

My favorite layout was from Nadauh's speedscrap. She gave such step by step instructions which I need when it comes to clustering and a little prod or two to do flowers.

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...MK-Tangled.jpg

sewfun06 02-14-2014 11:01 AM

I'm proud of myself that I finished the marathon! I ended up with the flu last year and I was so sad that I didn't get to really participate. I'm also proud that I started digi scrapping again! We took 2 trips last year and I haven't touched any of the photos. I'm hoping that now that I've started I'll be motivated to finish. Thanks especially to all those inspiring layouts that I was able to check out.

tukogirl 02-14-2014 11:59 AM

I'm proud I finished. I had a meltdown moment Saturday night feeling like none of the pages I was doing were going to be put in my book so why waste the time. I got it together Sunday morning and got caught up pretty quickly - just adjusted some of the directions to suit pages I needed to do and figured even if I didn't love some of the pages at least I had a good start and could adapt them to pages I did want to use. So I figure I have 6 pages half done, which is better than not started :)

Also, after doing game 2 and putting down my favorites I've gotten an interesting picture of pages I like and looking at their similarities I think it's helped me define my style and where I want to go with my scrapping.

momabaarjo 02-14-2014 03:37 PM

I finished all the challenges! And more importantly I FINISHED my trip album for this past October. :yeah:

branan5 02-14-2014 06:26 PM

Really Proud

1st of all I am REALLY proud that I finished my 1st Marathon with all 16 completed and all within the given time frames!!!! The other thing I am proud of is that I created quite a few layouts NOT(gasp) using Templates! I ALWAYS use templates so this is really out of my comfort-zone.

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...mbs/Cars13.jpghttp://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...e-12-Years.jpghttp://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...astle-View.jpg

CynthiaY2 02-14-2014 07:42 PM

First I'm so glad that I finished my 4th Winter Marathon for the Gold! I have many funny stories through the years during these marathons. It's a lot of fun and a lot of work but it wonderful chatting with everyone and getting to know each of you not only through your creative layouts but also by learning about each other. I did somethings that I hadn't down before they speedscrap with is great for me.

We'll my 3 favorite layouts are as follows:

Aurora - SS #158

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...Aurora_web.jpg

I'm really proud of how fast I had to cluster this layout. I started out with "X" and "O" everywhere on the template and transformed it to flowers and leaves. I'm really proud how my clustering has advanced over time...sometimes I cluster to much but this time I feel it was required and turned out great.

Kadani Village - Observation Area - SS #165

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...dani-Fire_.jpg

I don't take many night photos and definitely don't scrap many night layouts so this was a challenge for me. This is one of my favorite photos from our visit to Kadani Village and I just had no idea how to scrap it. I was really pleased with the title and the alpha and font look as well as the brush work I used which is definitely out of my comfort zone as well. I don't do brushes...scares me.

Dug and Russell - SS #170

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...g-Russell2.jpg

I really wanted to scrap Dug and Russell and I'm a big fan of LOTS of photos so when this challenged called for any character and no limited on photos I started hunting a template and started getting to work. I love the frame work and the Grape Soda element as my stand out iconic item in the layout. Definitely pops on the layout because nothing else is that color as well.

It was a great marathon and I look forward to next year being just a fabulous!:D

AMercil 02-15-2014 04:56 PM

I am really proud that I finished, I was out of town the whole weekend at a gymnastics competition and with all the longer deadlines was able to finish with some late nights! I also tried a few things I would not have normally done and some turned out and some did not. Here are the LO that I really love the most!

Linda P. 02-17-2014 07:24 AM

I'm most proud that I was able to finish the full marathon this year (despite fighting a nasty head cold and being in the middle of Girl Scout cookie season)! I think my second biggest accomplishment was letting go of the notion that a layout had to be 'print ready' in order to share. ;)

Thank you to our fabulous hostesses who made me think outside the box. I'm not a huge "one photo only" scrapper (I take too many pictures for that :D), so those challenges were a little harder for me to get started on, but I am thrilled with the final outcome. This picture has so many memories for me and I love that I was able to give it a special showcase.
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...mbs/SS_160.jpg

I'm also proud of learning a new colouring technique - and was surprised at how easy it was! I think it has become one of my favourite layouts from the weekend.
http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...mbs/SS_159.jpg

Wishes for next year? Getting my java updated in time so I can join in on the chats! Although last year I tried to chat and scrap at the same time with very limited success......maybe it was the missing chat room that allowed me to finish the full marathon this year! ;)

jnac916 02-18-2014 06:55 PM

First of all...I am happy that I did all 16 of the speed scraps. This was the first time I did all of them. One of my favorite LOs that I did was this one. I did not know how I was going to scrap these pictures. It was a memory that stood out in my mind.I usually don't have a page that is so busy and full of bright colors! Thank you Jlynn for SS 158 and giving me a chance to come up with this surprising LO.

Thanks everyone for playing. I really enjoyed reading about your accomplishments from the marathon. I appreciate you bragging on yourself and letting me share in your joy.

I love putting together the marathon for these very reasons mentioned in this thread. I love seeing that you are proud of your creations and enjoyed spending time with other MouseScrappers. I also like seeing you try new things and feeling good about being outside your comfort zone.

Using random number generator... the two lucky winners of the siggie pins are #12 (Pooh46) and #27 (branan5). Congrats Pam and Brandy! I will shoot you a PM.

Thank you again for sharing with me. This thread is very rewarding for me as an organizer. :)

:thanks:

Fun idea!
Here are a few things I'm proud of:

1. I scrapped 9 layouts in less than 4 days, while having a stomach flu (and taking care of DS and DH who sort of had it too!!).

2. It pushed me not to overthink and pick photos and kits fast, usually I really struggle to choose the PERFECT photos and the PERFECT kit to go with it, and it takes forever...

3. On a couple of layouts, I mashed different kits together, which I very rarely do.

And I ended up with layouts that I really like. In particular:

For a good mix of blocking and clustering:

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...w_2013_web.jpg

For a good mix of different kits, and not wondering too much about the snow theme, working with the colours:

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...h_2013_web.jpg

Again, for mixing different kits together:

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos..._epcot_web.jpg

PS: as I replied, I realize the game was over, but I had fun bragging anyways :D
