I love your layout! I can't wait to get working on this template. Looks like its going to be a lot of fun to work with!

I don't understand how this works. How do I use a template? I am really new to digital scrapbooking, so I don't get this. Do I use the actual template or do I just look at it for reference while making a page?

You download the template (most file types are included, so you shouldn't have a problem fitting it to your design software).

Open the template in your design software. Then begin replacing the objects (pictures, elements, Title) with your own items. If there is a flower and you want to put a button, go ahead. Usually there isn't a problem with changing the template to make it your own (that's part of the fun). The rules will usually tell you. Some of us turn or flip the template. Some remove or add some elements (flowers, buttons, ribbons).

Using templates really makes scrapping fast and easy. Kind of like fill in the blanks. Some come with shadows, some don't.

In the end, you want the template to recognizable, but let it be yours.

(Scraplifting-which mousescrappers has a challenge for) is when you look at a layout and "lift" it. You can be inspired by the colors, theme, layout, etc. Got take a look at that thread, also in challenges. Look at some older ones and see what people have done. Also look at older template challenges and you'll see what people have done with them as well.

Any more questions, don't be afraid to ask.

Ariel is my favourite princess so this layout has inspired me to get cracking on my Oct 2012 trip scrapbook this weekend. Thanks for the challenge.... I'll let you know how I get on. xx

I think Kelly covered it pretty well :) Here's another tutorial that might be helpful, too: http://www.mousescrappers.com/forums...ead.php?t=4575

Remember - no one was born digiscrapping. We've all been at that newbie stage - so feel free to ask questions :)

Template Challenge 169

http://www.mousescrappers.com/photos...llenge-169.jpg

Thank you for the template!!

I have very fond memories of the Beast!! First time I met him... I broke into tears (still cry every time I see him, too!). He hugged me. As I walked away.. still crying... I felt a paw upon my shoulder.. but I didn't shudder.. oh no! I turned.. and he handed me a little handful of purple flowers.. which are dried and in a scrapbook pocket to this day.

When I met Belle later.. I told her how Beast had given me flowers. She shook her head and said.. I keep telling him NOT to pick those flowers, too! A fond memory I shall never, ever, ever forget.

Thank You!

Thank You Afirmbeliever and Kristen for the explanation and the Tut. I just did the TC #168 and thought I was suppose to make it look about the same as the template. I then found that it wasn't set in stone. But I liked the Template so well it looked good anyway. I just hope I can figure out how not to get all these jagged edges. All you girls here at Mouse Scrappers do such Fabulous Creations you are leaving me Breathless. And just look at that Ariel and Beast how much more Beauty will we see~My Eyeballs are Poppin' out of my head. Everyone here is so Wonderful. Looking forward to TC #168 and I hope it's lookin' forward to me~LOL~God Bless You All.

Kristen 05-22-2013 05:31 AM

Hi Nancy!
Did you use the template or create the shapes/layers yourself?
This template I know doesn't have any jagged edges- and ideally templates you're using/buying should be jagged edge-free, but rarely you'll find one with rough edges.

If you made the shapes yourself- make sure your file is set to 12x12" with 300 DPI. If its less than that you're likely to lose quality and see jags. Also- PS and PSE are not ideal for shapes/layers. Usually I'll do that work in like illustrator, which is head and shoulders better for that type of work.

Hope this makes sense! :)

Kristen 05-22-2013 05:32 AM

And WOW! Laramie, what a wonderful story for sure!! <3

ScrappyCoyote 05-22-2013 09:19 AM

Welcome!

Welcome to MouseScrappers! You mentioned "jaggy edges". What jagged edges are those? If you made the layout, don't forget to post in this thread. I'll go take a look-see to see if it is in your gallery!!

Again.. welcome. And don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone here is just so nice and helpful!!

Thanks, Kristen. I rarely do much journaling directly on my pages. I suppose I should try harder to do that.. and this template surely does lend itself towards journaling! That was a special day to be sure.

You should get my hubby to tell you about when I first me Prince Charming! The Prince came up behind me, touched my shoulder, I turned.. and just died. I was so taken aback!! Yes.. I ended up blubbering all over myself. Seems I spend lots of time crying at Disney! LOL. DH was just so very amused!!

Thank You Kristen and ScrappyCoyote for your help. I just used the magic wand to select the frame; when I magnified it larger it had a big jagged edge around it. I strightened it; but I can still see a small jagged edge. This was on TC #168. That was my first ever try at using a template. I barely can us PS and I have no idea what an illustrator is. I get stuff in my email but figured it was too complicated for me. When you say make sure it's set at 12x12 do you mean I should enlarge the shape before I select it and cut it bigger; then shrink it back down to the right size. I don't have PS on and can't remember what you call that thingy you streach with. Do you think that would work. Well it's probably just me. But I'm going to keep trying. Your help is much appreciated; if you have time to look at my LO and see if you see it on the frame it's at this spot:

ScrappyCoyote 05-22-2013 08:27 PM

A couple of things...

Nancy..

I use Photoshop Elements, which is very similar to PS to the best of my knowledge.

When you bring in a template, you can check the image size:
Image/Resize/Image Size and you will see the existing size
It should say 12 inches x 12 inches 300 resolution (or possible 3600 pixels by 3600 pixels)

That is standard sizing for digital scrapping. (You reduce that to 600 x 600 for the web.)

I pulled Template #168 in to see what you are talking about. And yes.. I see some jaggy edges around the frame when viewed at Fit to screen.

Try selecting View/Actual Pixels or even View/Print Size. You no longer will see those "jaggy edges". For simplicity sake, just know that if you are viewing a tilted frame at Fit to Screen.. you more often than not will see jaggy edges. They are fine when you view full size though.. no need to go in and straighten things.

The only thing I saw on full size view was softness around the Mickey Heads around the border. If you printed a layout with this template, you would see that, yes. The frame - no jaggies.

Without getting too techy, I hope this helps you out some.

Laramie
