I need to do this before I start backing up dvd's.

THank you for this! I need it!
What service is this?

Any other suggestions for unlimited back up / storage options (another one here with a large EHD to back up)

I back all of my final JPEGS up to externals, DVD's, and flickr pro (set on private). Flickr pro is $25/year and you have unlimited storage for JPEGS.
Kimberly, do you back up all your pictures on Flickr pro also?

It it this one:
https://mozy.com/about

I googled: Best online backup reviews you can read it here:

http://online-storage-service-review.toptenreviews.com/

Mozy was the third but they were the first with the Unlimited storage the other two you pay as you use space.
Mozy also uses Military encryption.
there is more, check their site. The price is reasonable.

Not 'endorsing' it since I don't know too much about it but for those considering Mozy, I remember seeing a promotion related to Delta Sky Miles. You can get up to 10,000 miles for signing up. There is also a 15% discount, but I thought that the deal ended Oct 31... worth a try though. See details here: http://mozy.com/landing/skymiles/

So far...

I exported my bookmarks. I wanted to do this before I back up my Documents folder. If you don't know how to do this, here are some help pages:

Firefox: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/...+bookmark&as=s

IE: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/211089

Chrome: http://www.google.com/support/chrome...n&answer=96816

Safari: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...0/en/9263.html

My own tip: use a similar naming convention for each so you can easily find them all later. Here is mine
bookmarks_FF_Nov2010.html
bookmark_IE_Nov2010.htm
bookmark_Chrome_Nov2010.html

Next, I backed up the following following folders to my EHD
- Documents
- Music
- Fonts
(on my PC, found at C:\Windows\Fonts); I discovered that I couldn't back up anything with a arrow over the TT (true type) icon. Not really sure what the icon means, but may have something to do with the way it is installed(?)

These were relative quick to do. Check them off your list! Who is next with the next easy step?

By any chance, Do you know if Flick keeps the same resolution of pics and size?
I read somewhere that some Web services change the size of pics to save space. I was just wondering. (I think i read it in Smugmug)

Only the Flickr Pro accounts can store full-resolution images. Here's the info from their HELP section:

Quote:
Are there limits on file sizes or file types for uploads?
With a free account, you can upload photos up to 10MB in size, or 2 videos per month- up to 150MB for each video. If you have a Pro account, you can upload photos up to 20MB and videos up to 500MB in size. For more on video files and types supported, please visit the Video FAQ

Flickr officially supports JPEGs, non-animated GIFs, and PNGs. You can also upload TIFFs and some other file types, but they will automatically be converted to and stored in JPEG format.

As you publish photos, they're compressed and resized by Flickr (if necessary) in the following sizes:

75x75 pixels
100 pixels (on the longest side)
240 pixels
500 pixels
Large (which will be 1024 pixels if it exceeds that length)
The original size (if you have a pro account)
To access all of these sizes for a photo, click the "All Sizes" link on the individual photo page.

If you have a pro account, we also store your high-resolution originals, which you can download at anytime as long as you remain Pro. Anyone can access public photos and download the high-resolution (original) size from a Pro account, unless you limit access to the downloadable image.

Thanks for the flickr information. While it would be hard to overcome losing my files or music...they could eventually be replaced or recreated....my pictures, not so much. Flickr sounds like it might be a nice option in addition to my EHD.

Backup to my EHD was completed today.
